Despite Florida’s current pandemic, Key West Pride 2023 is slated to kick off this June with dance parties and sunset sailing excursions. A yearly parade marks the event’s most iconic feature, while theatre performances and a Pride street fair are also part of the festivities.
Traditionally, many of the best Key West gay Pride events are adult-only. However, the festival organizers have also introduced several family-friendly events. These include a trolley tour of the island’s gay history, multiple church services and a Duval Street fair. A new LGBTQ youth panel discussion and a women speaker series round out the more PG activities.
The main event is the Pride parade on Sunday, which starts at 5pm, & runs along the famous Duval Street. It’s a fun and colourful event to take in. Other highlights of the week include a pre-parade drag brunch at Mangoes and the world famous Tea Dance at Lateda. There are a few kinky events to check out such as the Thursgays at Side Bar and 801 Bourbon’s fetish party, for those looking to get their kink on.
While the majority of Pride events are in Old Town, a few are held in the nearby suburbs of Smathers Beach and White Street. This provides a good opportunity to enjoy the relaxed and peaceful vibe that Key West is known for. In addition to this, there is a wide range of hotel options catering specifically to the LGBTQ community. A favourite of ours is the Old Towne Guesthouse, located right in the heart of the gay scene. This beautiful bed and breakfast has 17 rooms, most of which are uniquely decorated in different styles. The accommodation is cosy and comfortable and the staff are welcoming and friendly.
