When Did You Know You Were Gay?

Regardless of the age at which you first realized you were gay, it is totally normal. There are no set criteria for determining sexual orientation, and this is an aspect of identity that should be explored as you see fit. It can also be helpful to consider the timing of your realization, as this is a part of life that may not be fully understood by those around you right away.

A lot of people will say that they knew they were gay when they first came out to their friends and family, but this isn't always the case. For many queer kids, especially those in school, it is a process of discovery and coming into their identities. They might not have a clear moment where it all falls into place, but they might gradually begin to notice things like having same-sex fantasies or masturbating with both genders.

Another thing to consider is that it takes time for people to understand their sexuality, even if they are open-minded and supportive of LGBTQIA+ individuals. It's also a good idea to find a support system outside of your close circle, such as a counselor or therapist.
