What Is the Gay Area in Atlanta?

Atlanta is home to a vibrant gay community and many inclusive establishments and iconic events. From a trendy brunch spot in Midtown to the city's only LGBTQ sports bar, there are options for everyone here. This gay-friendly destination is an excellent choice for travelers looking to explore a new region and see what makes Yaas-lanta tick.

Known as one of America's first and biggest Pride celebrations, Atlanta's annual parade marches through the original "gayborhood," Midtown, each October before bringing crowds to Piedmont Park for festival activities. The area is also home to numerous gay bars, including Low-key Leather Bar The Heretic, where you can hit the dance floor or practice your pool skills. The Heretic is also home to out-of-this-world events like Wednesday Warpzone and the monthly harness party.

For those who enjoy a more relaxed scene, the East Atlanta Village neighborhood is a walkable hangout with eclectic stores, restaurants and charming houses. The neighborhood is where you'll find My Sister's Room, the only lesbian bar in the area, as well as Mary's, a gay bar with a more laid-back vibe and legendary karaoke nights.

For those who enjoy a night of dancing, Future is the top club in the city, hosting drag performers and international DJs throughout the week. You can also go club-hopping and enjoy drinks at various bars, from the upscale to the more casual. The city's LGBTQ-friendly community organizations are an excellent resource if you need support, want to meet people or are interested in volunteering.
