Tila Tequila, born Nguyễn Thị Thiên Thanh on October 24, 1981, is an American model, singer, television, and social media personality. Known by various stage names including Tila Nguyen, Miss Tila, and Tornado Thien.

Early Life

Tila was born in Singapore to Vietnamese parents who were refugees after the Vietnam War. At age one, her family moved to Houston, Texas. She grew up in a strict Buddhist community but became rebellious in her youth, leading to involvement with drugs and crime and a stint in reform school. Her high school years were tumultuous, marked by a drive-by shooting and a miscarriage. She graduated from Alief Hastings High School and moved to Los Angeles in 2001.
