When it comes to boy bands, the Backstreet Boys are up there with the best of them. The iconic group — which included Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, AJ McLean, and cousins Brian Littrell and Kevin Richardson — reached peak boy band status in the late ‘90s and early ‘00s, with their music reaching all corners of the world. But how many of the members are gay?
While the members of the Backstreet Boys haven’t been open about their sexual orientation, the band has long supported equal rights. AJ McLean in particular has shown himself to be a very supportive gay friend and ally. Whether he’s rocking heels on the red carpet or fully glam in a photo shoot, he never lets his sexual orientation get in the way of his confidence and flair.
The Backstreet Boys formed in 1993 after their manager, Lou Pearlman, held a series of auditions to find five singers who would be the perfect fit for his group. After a successful audition, the Backstreet Boys officially formed on April 20, 1993. They took their name from a flea market in Orlando that they frequently visited.
Since then, all of the Backstreet Boys have married and had kids. Kristin Willits and Kevin Richardson are parents to two sons, Mason and Maxwell; Brian Littrell and Leighanne have a daughter, Baylee; and AJ McLean and Rochelle have a daughter, Lyric. The last of the original members, Nick Carter, is also a father to son Odin and daughter Saoirse.
